'01 Elantra GT rear seats

According to everything I've seen, the rear seats of a '01 Elantra GT
hatchback are supposed to fold flat; the bottoms fold up, the backs fold
down.

My seat bottoms don't seem to fold up. Can't find handles or hinges. Am I
missing some obvious step, or did I get some little-known 2000 1/2 model?

There should be a "rope" just below the seats themselves that you pull up
and out to fold the bottom portion of the rear seats...

To clarify, the front edges of the seats pull up, then the cushions fold
forward.
