Hello group! For the past 2 days I been smelling antifreeze in the cabin of
my sonata. I checked the coolant level and it is fine. No warning lights
going on. I have been using the a/c for the past few days because of the
wicked high humidity here in New England. Has anyone else encountered this?
Have 26,500 miles on my sonata. Getting 21 gallons per miles as well.
(sucks) What else should I be checking for to find out what is causing this
smell in the car. Thanks group. Otherwise very happy with my car.

Last time I had a similar problem(smell)...it was the heater core
leaking.

I owned a 93 Chevy Blazer before I bought the Sonata. I had that same
problem. It turned out that the heater core was leaking into the
cabin. Check your floor boards, my front passenger-side was flooded
under the mat.

From time to time, I would notice the same thing with my old Excel, but
I never found any leaks. So far, I haven't noticed it with my new
Elantra GT. Since your car isn't very old, a heater core failure is
unlikely, though certainly possible. If the smell persists, I'd take it
to the dealer, since it's still under warranty. If it disappears, I
wouldn't worry about it.
