Anyone ever replace a 1995 Elantra timing belt?
How do you get the lower cover off? Removing the engine mount doesn't seem
    to tbe an option.

Check out http://www.hmaservice.com/webtech/ for the shop manual for
    this car.

It doesn't specifically say anything about removing the engine mount
to replace the timing belt but I know on a later model Sonata to
replace the timing belt the front mount if removed after the engine is
supported to get the belt off and back on.

    Good Luck

You must remove the engine mount by the left fender. It's the only option.
And then it's still very tight.

I think you are right. Problem is the nut on the left fender/engine
firewall side won't budge. I tried all the customary methods. It doesn't
seem to be rust -it's just really tight.

Mount will swing up enough to clear the timing belt cover. It's a pain to
take the pulleys off while the mount is installed, but I'm going to try.
