Hello everyone... We bought a small KIA a few years ago new, and have
been very impressed with the little car.. As a result, when we decided
a few weeks ago that we wanted a second car, we went looking at
Hyundai/KIA again.. We found a 2000 Sonata GLS that the local
Hyundai dealer had sold originally and taken back in on trade... As
the car appeared to have been very well taken care of, we purchased
    it..

Overall, we are impressed with the car (which is very well equipped)
.... However, one thing which seems amiss is the fact that if you leave
the headlights on, take the ignition key, and leave the car no buzzer,
chime, or other "alarm" sounds to remind you that you have left the
headlights on.. Even our inexpensive little KIA has a buzzer
reminder.... Therefore we are wondering if there is supposed to be an
alarm of some sort, but it is not functioning in our car...

    Thoughts?

Hi, well the answer to your question is "No, but there should be." I have the
same model, and after a dead battery twice from leaving the lights on, I had my
roommate install a buzzer so that it would remind me whenever I left the lights
on. I picked it up at WalMart, and he installed it in less than 30 minutes.
It was one of the best, and least expensive, upgrades I have ever done.

It's a curious omission on an otherwise well-equipped car. (My 1975
AMC Hornet has a factory headlight buzzer!) I installed the following
in our 2000 Sonata and it works great:

It was pretty easy to install, total cost was about $4.00 for the
piezo buzzer and diode from Radio Shack. I found a connector under the
dash that is +12v when the exterior lights are on and hooked the
positive end of the buzzer to it. Then I ran a ground wire over to the
    driver's door switch.
