My 2000 Sonata also will not pass CA smog, despite repeated tries. All known sensors have been replaced, including all four O2, knock, and mass airflow. The Check engine light is not on. It has been to the dealer twice and an independent shop also. The dealer's solution is to run a diagnostic and update the software--$500 total for those procedures, and no guarantee that they will fix the problem. There's a code saying something like insufficient drive cycles. Any ideas? Thanks.

You didn't say why your car fails the test.
If the ECU is saying insufficient drive cycles then the readiness monitors aren't set.
Can be due to battery recently being disconnected for a period
And this can be a reason to fail

Check internet for drive cycles for your car and state
Drive your car and get readiness monitors set.

Battery hasn't been disconnected in a long time, and thousands of miles have been put on. The actual error is "cat cycles not completed." Maybe the cat is bad?

Did not know there was such a thing as cat cycles not completed???
As far as I knew, they act like a charcoal filter
They interact with the stuff going through them and leave a better product afterward
