My sister is buying a 2002 Elantra GLS automatic - supposedly the
proverbial 'owned by an old lady' car with 46k miles and nothing more
than a couple of tiny dings. Since I looked the car over for her, I feel
obligated to find out more about it. (I've got experience with other
makes, but not Hyundai.) I read about a known issue with the fourth gear
shifts, and while the car shifted kind of softly on the test drive, it
didn't seem to slip, and she told me her old Elantra GT actually shifted
much worse. Was this issue resolved by 2002? Are there any other problem
areas I should know about? Thanks.

After a TSB search, I found nothing relating to a problem with the 3-->
shift. Can you point me to your source?

I can't think of much that really sticks out as a problem area on thes
cars. Maybe consider changing the thermostat. I've seen several engine
cooked to the point of needing cylinder heads and radiators replace
because of this. Even so, the failure rate isn't bad. Just something t
    consider for the cost-benefit factor
