2002 Santa Fe: compatible key fobs?

    Hi all,

I just got a 2002 Santa Fe, but only received a single keyless entry
fob. I've seen the other posts in this group regarding how to program a
new fob if I bought one, but I was wondering which ones are compatible
(or is there any compatibility issue)?

For example, on eBay, there are four hits for "hyundai keyless entry"
    (one of which is
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33723&item=2455159743).
There are also Elantra and Sonata fobs. All of these look like you can
get them for less than $10.

Is there a rule of thumb on compatibility? Or is it a crap shoot?

    Thanks,

    Wade

Item number: 2455159743 SHOULD work, assuming it was working until the
seller decided to sell it... BTW, why would the seller want to sell it?

If they sold the car, why didn't they give the fob to the new owner? If they
still have the car, why would they want to get rid of it?

Just a word of caution..... If you bought your 02 SF new you should have
been given TWO (2) fobs. Talk to your dealer, firmly. If you bought it
used, "someone" still has the other fob. Worry.

With a copy of a working key, and a working fob, your SF should become
someone else's all too easily. Or stripped down to parts it could be
    impossible to find.

Good points - I'll talk to my dealer.

As I said, I've seen the instructions for programming a new keyfob's
codes into my transmitter. Assuming I never get the missing original
keyfob, is there a way to erase the existing transmitter codes and start
over, effectively removing the codes from the missing keyfob, rendering
it useless? For example, if I just set my transmitter to SET, and just
program my one existing keyfob, will that also effectively erase the
    codes for the missing one?

    Thanks,

My understanding is there are 5 memory positions in the ETAC, and once you
enter a sixth, the first is deleted. I'm not aware of a "CMOS reset" like
    in a computer.

Other than that, you could get a new ETAC.

The remote's code is programmed into the receiver.
    Yes.

The max. is two. In "set" mode, the receiver is ready to receive a new code
and any existing memory address of the code is lost once you press the
    lock/unlock button.
