All I can tell you is that my 2003 Accent (purchased at the end of May) has
been perfect in every way. It has been driven 1,300 fun-filled miles.

It appears to be a very well made car.

  4. I have 56,000 miles on my 2000 Hyundai Accent L. It has proven to be
a good reliable little car. I take maintenance religiously and change
oil every 3000 miles as well as other suggested maintainance
requirements. I think if you treat it right it will treat you right.
It is no substitute for a Ford Mustang Mach 1 or anything with an
engine as it's engine does it's job but will win no races. I had some
guy pull up to me revving up in a Ford Focus. I guess it made him
feel better about paying twice the price of my car to get to the next
stop light faster than me. Me I just click away the miles listening
to the not too bad stereo (and I have $10,000 worth of high end audio
equipment to listen at my home). The car gets me there and back. Had
a couple minor problems. The shifter cable broke and needed to be
repaired and was as per warrantee though it took Valley Stream Hyundai
of Long Island New York 3 days to get the part. I knew I was big on
their hit parade as a warranty job anyway but they went out of their
way to screw me knowing I came from out of state at the time. The
only other problem was a bad sparkplug which was changed and now I use
NGK plugs and no problems. Was hit in back and bumper held. Hit in
front and bumper held there too. 5-7 mph hits but all the same
impressive. The car is well built. You would do well to buy one.
The resale sucks so be sure you like the model you pick because it's
yours for the next 10 years. All the best.

Thanks...that's what I wanted to hear. My daughter will be keeping this car
for ten years because she'll be too busy building her finances back up to
    worry about buying another car!!

I don't think there's too many horror stories about accents.
some people have had problems with automatic gearboxes.
my 2001 accent is a manual with 53,000km on it.
only problems have been a flat tyre and broken windscreen, neither of
which i can blame hyundai for.
it does everything quite well and doesn't have any rattles yet.
you need a bit of power here to overtake road trains and the accent is
    quite up to the task.
i don't think i could have got a better car for what i need even if i
paid a few thousand dollars more but you do have to endure badmouthing
on usenet about them, even though i'd figure a lot of hyundai haters
haven't driven one in a long time at least, if at all.

It is nice to hear the Accent is of relatively good quality.

I too will be acquiring one in the U.S. within a few months.

Is Hyundai financing them, and at what interest and at ap;prox what drive-out
price (for the automatic with air & cd-radio)?

Also, how much is the Accent (with 4 airbags) in Italy in euros ?

They of course drive Fiats in Italy, and I only saw one or two Hyundais when
    there. recently.

I presume the new Fiats don't have 4 airbags, and shame on 'em too for not
having four airbags as similarly most U.S. made cars also (do not have four
    airbags).
Hyundai is apparently currently in the process of building an assembly factory
fairly near Montgomery, Alabama, at Greenville (which is on the interstate
    between Montgomery & Mobil).

Has the ground been broken for the Hyundai factory in Alabama in this
    recession?

When I bought it (for my daughter) Hyundai was giving $1K rebate or 0%
finan.. I took the rebate and I did financing thru a local CU.

After purchasing the car, 3 days later we discovered one wiper wasn't
turning. I thought to myself, oh shit here we go, but it turned out to be a
loose nut. The dealer fixed it in a half hour and washed the car. So far,
everthing else has been perfect on the car.

It grows on you in time. After owning the car and examining it, checking
fluids etc.. for 2 weeks I am becoming a little more confident in
reliability. Quality appears at least as good as most U.S. made cars.

    So for $10.2K, she got 10yr/100,000 on the engine/transax., 5yr, 50,000
bumper-to-bumper, 5 yr roadside assistance. If reliability is on a par with
    most U.S. makes it's quite a deal.

Oh yea...This was the 4 door GL with an auto-trans & 2 air bags (not
counting my wife), comes standard with air cond, cassette/ radio. $10,200 +
    tax/license.

Dealer wanted $10,500. I had to bargain HARD to get another $300 off.
