2010 Sonata

Discussion in 'Hyundai Sonata' started by Brian Matthews, Feb 14, 2010.

  1. Went to my Hyundai dealer today to price a new 2010 Sonata. With my
2004 Sonata (with 66,00 mile on it) as a trade in, dealer incentives
(rebate) and $2000 down payment, I got a price of $7000.00. That
seemed like a pretty good deal. I may go down there on Tuesday and get
it. Has anyone had any bad experiences with the 2010 Sonata? My 2004
was, by FAR, the very best new car I've ever had.

I've only had mine for 2 months and 3700 miles. Perfect so far. The V-6
has more power than my '07 and seems to get a bit more mileage to boot.

Do NOT turn on the XM radio unless you plan to spend $10 month. If you
don't know what you miss you just live in ignorant bliss forever, but once
you take an hour ride with no commercials, you really get to like the music
selections and lack of interruptions. Yeah, I signed up with two months to
    go on the free trial.

You'll like it. Lots of nice features.

Don't like XM hardly at all. Had a 3 month free trial which I
cancelled early. Subsequent offers to reconnect for six months at
$4.99 per mo. still won't entice me.

Although it is suposedly commercial free, XM itself is frequenty
plugging XM which I find annoying. Why should anyone listen to their
own promos when they are already listening? (However, relative to the
usual commercial radio it is much better.)

I just couldn't find any channel that was worth listening to. Instead
I play MP3s, selected at random from a library of about 500.

  4. Actually, it was Saturday I test drove it and got the price. I posted
here but my internet connection went down. So it posted the message
when I booted Agent back up today. Pretty weird.

In a way, I'm really bumming that I got such a good price offer on
this Sonata. Living near Detroit, I hate to buy a foreign car. When I
bought my '04, the economy wasn't nearly as bad as it is now. With all
my neighbors and friends out of work, this seems like a hard choice.
But what it comes down to is that I have to do what's best for my
family. Do I go for quality, at a lower price or do I overpay and have
another Detroit lemon? I'll be going to my Ford dealer and my GM
dealer with the numbers and see if they can beat them on cars I may
want. A Ford Edge or Fusion will be considered as well as a Chevy
Impala. If they can't come close to beating the Sonata's price, I'll
either hang on to my '04 or go ahead and get the 2010. Either way,
it's going to be a hard choice.

I like the XM radio. I only listen to Pops, Symphony Hall, or Met
Opera. There are very few announcements and no XM promotional ads.

With all the stations available, you must have narrow taste in music. I
listen to a few stations and have not been bothered at all with promos.
Maybe every half hour a 10 second mention, but no advertising like regular
stations. Biggest problems I have is trying to decide if I want Blues,
40's, 60's, or classical. Even a little Bluegrass once in a while too. I
have a 6 CD changer too, but I've not even put a CD in yet, but I have a
Flash drive plugged in the USB port right now with a Leonard Cohen album on
    it.

I like the fact that they play full versions too. The local classical
stations rarely do so they can squeeze in some commercials.

I can understand your situation, but you have to look out for yourself. The
Sonata was built in the US with a fair amount of US made parts.

If your neighbors made a better quality car, I'd still be driving one and
Toyota, Hyundai, etc would not have made any inroads over the years. I'd
consider a new Malibu over an Impala though. They are supposed to be a
better quality and I've hear too many bad stories from Impala owners. My
Buick is falling apart just sitting in the driveway. I had no intention of
buying a foreign brand of car until I had the Buick a couple of years. Nice
    car for about 30,000 miles.

A person's taste in music has probably most to do with his culture,
upbringing etc. For someone raised with American commercial radio I
think XM would sound like music from heaven. But for others who had
access to radio signals crossing the many borders of Europe, for
instance, they have experienced the broad diversity of music from many
    cultures.

  10. I have a funeral director in town who listens to nothing but the Elvis
    station.

No idea whether it is XM or Sirius (or are they one and the same now). But
if you knew this guy, you'd never guess.

Since the merger, XM/Sirius has really cranked up the cross promotion
between channels. Sirius is also much more personality driven, which i
find annoying, since I just want music on the music channels. I think
it's part of the reason they are losing so much money. Why spend so
much money on second rate personalities? A friend that just bought a
Sonata is already hooked on his radio. He has a massive collection of
live Grateful Dead concerts to listen, but he loves just putting on
    the Grateful Dead channel.

Just out of curiosity, what sort of music do you listen to?

I listen to a great mix. Examples of what I consider to be my
    currently favourites;

Valerie Dunbar - Beautiful Dreamer et. al..
    Enya - Marble Halls
Peter Dawson - Floral Dance et. al.
    Paul Robeson -
    Cathrine McKinnon
    Abba
    Bony M
    Elvis Presley
    Perry Como
    Doris Day
    Beatles
    Burl Ives
    Connie Francis
    Stompin' Tom Connors
    Harry Belafonte
    Harry Lauder
    Irish Tenors
    Mario Lanza
    Scottish Fiddle Orchestra
    Isla St. Clair
    James Last
    Judy Collins
    Marlene Dietrich
    Nana Mouskouri
    Pat Boone
    Patsy Cline
Sahnestücke- 10 disks of lively German music
...... and all those singles that made the top of the charts over the
decades plus the popular classics by the artists/orchestras that made
    then famous.

I like many American country tunes but on XM they are offered by
second rate artists. I want to hear my favouite version.

Well that's your problem, your taste in music is too limited ;)

I can see where you would want to put your collection of MP3s on
    shuffle and let it play.

I've heard many of those artists already on XM, but I've not yet hear
Sahnestucke played. If I do, I'll let you know what channel.

I would have thought my list of music was anything but "limited". I'd
    say wide ranging.

Don't know where y'all's living but N.American media is very much
under the control of a few - despite the "freedom" propaganda. That's
one reason the public are tuning out their radios, TVs and newspapers
and going on-line and deciding to pick the tunes they want to listen
    to.

As for N. American TV choices .....

Sorry, my attempt at satire failed. Your taste is certainly not
limited. You are also correct about most media in the US. I have
friends that work for a large media conglomerate and it's about money,
    not music.
