The pic in the owner's manual seems to show that, to change a tire on left front, the jack should be positioned just aft of two perfectly good, small, upside-down (pyramid-shaped) notches. Not between them, oh no, that would make too much sense. Ok, so my eyesight ain't so good but not THAT bad. If someone with better eyes and more patience could help out, it'd be much appreciated.

I would guess that following the owner's manual recommendation is a smart thing to do.
After all, the manufacturer's got someone who knows what they are talking about to write the manual.
