    hey all!
i was thinking about buying a used 94 excel, automatic 2 door hatchback
for $2000 i was wondering if its shitty car or if it has a bad rep or
anything, the car seems to be in good condition, 76,000 miles on it
    thanks,
    mike

  2. I would avoid one that age with an automatic transmission; unless it's just
    been rebuilt.

    And I wouldn't pay over $1500 for a '94.

    Just my 2 cents.

I bought a 94 with a manual tranny for 725. last summer, it's not pretty but
runs fine.. makes a good student car.

thanks for the replies. about the rebuilt tranny, i or my wife am only
going to use the car to go to and from work which is about a total of 14
miles a day. if not rebuilt that should hold up for some time ya think?
    thank ,

    maybe, maybe not

    you like playing crapshoot?

it all depends on how the car was maintained by the previous owner(s)

Check the AT dipstick with the car fully warmed up and in park. The
fluid should be at the HOT mark. The fluid should be bright red and clear.
If it's brownish, has bits of stuff floating around, or smells burnt, you're
    just asking for trouble.

The AT's on Excels are notorious for failure (slipping, not shifting). If
    the
fluid & filter is changed often (once a year, regardless of mileage), you
    can keep them alive.

In any event, $2500 (US?) is a bit much unless the car is in perfect
    condition
    for a 10yr old car.
