    Hi All,

Just bought an 98 Lantra as spares or repairs.

It goes into Reverse fine and can drive around all day. But it wont go
into Drive/2nd or Low at all!

Fluid level is at cold. It is a brown colour and smells a very tiny
    bit of burning.

Took pan off and looked for filing, but none in there.. apart from
    normal wear and tear.

Does the level need to be upto Hot when the engine is cold?

    Also should it be pink?

Would it be best to do a flush??

When we change the stick to Drive/2/L it will rev the engine, but not
    move.

    Any ideas?
    Thanks

The transmission fluid level is proper. A flush will not fix this.
The fact that it goes in reverse confirms that the axles are engaged.

You'll probably need to replace or overhaul the transmission, but
first check the transmission range switch to be sure it's sending the
proper gear position signal to the TCM.
