99 Tiburon Reverse Lights

i noticed that when i throw my shifter into reverse, none of my back up
lights turn on. i inspected all 4 lights and the filaments look fine.

does anyone know what may be the cause of this problem? and what possible
solutions to this problems are (without spending hundreds of dollars).

Manual or autotragic?

For a manual, check the switch that screws into the top of the trans.
 
my tiburon is a 5 speed manual. how can i tell if the switch on top of the
transmission has gone bad?

Turn your ignition to on but do not start the car.
Remove the connector from the switch and use a paper clip or similar
conductor to jumper the pins. If the lights come on, the problem is in
your switch (since you've just verified the fuse, wiring, and bulbs are
good).

To double check, you could remove the switch and check the continuity as
the ball is depressed/released on the end of the switch. Should be
continity in one position and open circuit in the other.
