Another Elantra question... ;)

  1. Hey guys!

Based on the glowing recommendations, I've taken the plunge today and
    purchased an Elantra.

I had a question for you guys though, of course, after purchase, the
dealer has tried to sell me all kinds of extras such as paint
protection, fabric protection, rustproofing, etc... I've turned them
down but I'm wondering if the paint sealant is actually worth it or not?
Of course, they say there is a six year warranty on the protection,
but a little voice in the back of my head keeps saying it's a glorified
wax job and I wouldn't have any issues before six years anyways...

Has anyone here taken it and is it worth it at all on a dark colored car?

    Any opinions?

Congrats on the purchase. No, you should refuse all such "extras".

Did you get the GT or the GLS, Hatch or Sedan? Did you get moon-roof and
    ABS-TCS? What colour?

Be sure to stop by the Elantra GT Club and Forum at
http://www.elantragtclub.com/ where you'll find a lot of useful info and
helpful enthusiastic owners whether you have the GT or the GLS

Congratulations! I am sure you will be quite pleased with the
car. Did you get a GT or GLS?

Skip all the extras that dealers try to tack on. They are pure
profit for them and offer little to no value to you in the long
run. Like others have said, wash your car with soap designed for
cars and was it every 6 months. My preferred brand of wax is
Zymol, which does a nice job of protecting and is a low abrasive wax.

  7. Thanks for the advice Neil! I ended up not taking any of the extra's
except some insurance on the loan but I would have taken that anyway
even with a bank so it's not a big deal. It's good to be able to get
    advice online like this!

I'm up in Canada so we don't have the GLS, the VE is the equivalent for
us. In the end, I ended up buying the GL which is the no frills base
model, silver gray. I could have gotten the VE but I couldn't quite
justify to myself paying for the difference in price as I don't really
care about air conditioning and power windows/locks. I'm very happy
with my purchase though and I look forward of taking delivery of the car
    in the coming days.

I'll go visit your site when I have a chance!

    Thanks again for the advice!

  8. Hey Klaron!

Thanks for the congrats! I ended up getting the GL which is the base
Elantra. I'm very happy with my purchase and I'm looking forward to
getting the car in the coming days! :)

For the extras, I had read on other sites that most if not all of them
were pure profit for the dealers but you know, it's the first time that
I purchase a new car and I was a bit more prepared to deal with the
sales person than with the finance person. It's a weird feeling too
because you often feel pushed in different directions with lines like
"well, you just CAN'T leave without this or that". Anyways, that's done
    and over with! :)

I can look forward not to getting the car! :)

    Take care!

Thanks for the advice Neil! I ended up not taking any of the extra's
Congratulations! I glad you followed our advice. Also, be careful; your
dealer might tell you that they already put all the protective crap on your
car, and that they need to charge you. If they do this, then refuse the
car; and tell them that they need to get a car for you that does not have
it or give you your car without charging you. please stand firm on this.
Once again, congratulations, I have an Elantra GT and love it!
