Anybody tow with their Elantra?

Edmunds.com says the >'01 Elantras can tow up to 3,000lbs with trailer
brakes. Has anyone tested that? Seems a bit far fetched for a small 2
    liter, 4-banger engine.

What would you tow with one? you couldn't tow much more than a power mower
with one of the underpowered things.

A small travel trailer that'll be ~1,000 lbs loaded.

I towed a Uhaul 5 by 8 covered trailer that was packed to the hilt and
weighed over 1500 pounds. Through the rockies. It had no problem. No
    overheating, no major hickups.

  5. I haven't shopped extensively, but when I bought my class I (read, very
light duty) hitch for my 01 elantra, I never saw a class II or higher
hitch for the car. Class I hitches are only rated for 2000 pounds.

I've only towed twice, a motorcycle and trailer probably 900 pounds
total. Had no problems on small streets or expressways, but 3000 pounds
    might make it more difficult.

I did a similar 4x8 trailer loaded. Gross weight was about 1700 lbs. I
hauled about 700 miles from NJ to southern VA and back. I never had a
problem either, but the brakes took a beating. Acceleration was fine.
