I'd like to buy a second hand Hyundai car, but am not sure which mode
    is the best

I am a first time driver, so the car will have to be small. I want a
automatic, power windows, CD player, etc. I would prefer four doors
    but two doors is acceptable
I do not want the car to have travelled over 100,000 kms. I hav
around $2500 saved up, and I realise I will need more if I am to bu
    a decent second hand car

I like the Elantras and the Exels the best, also the Lantra.

If I am to buy a Hyundai, would should I look for? Which make is bes
for my money, lasts longer, etc

Any help would be greatly appriciated. :wink

Lantra and Elantra are the same vehicle. To my knowledge, only one name o
the other is used in any one market.

Not knowing much about the engines and fuel management packages in thes
vehicles in Australia, I don't have much to offer in the way of specifics

I can say that Accents (Excels) and Elantras have been reasonably reliabl
cars in the United States, with the Accents seeming to have more automati
transmission problems. Look for model year 1995 or newer on th
Accent/Excel and 1996 or newer on the Elantra. Before that, there wer
major transmission and other problems frequently with these vehicles.
Significant quality improvements seem to have been made again with th
introduction of the 2000 Accent and 2001 Elantra.

Dates given are for major model year changes in the U.S. Other areas o
the world may have experienced these changes a model year earlier

I,m in Australia. I,ve had 3 Sonata,s with no major problems at all. Make
sure the Timing Belt has been changed though, as far as I,m aware all these
engines are "interference types". Valves through pistons are not a pretty
sight. Neither is giving a blank cheque and your first born to the Service
    Manager.
My kids have had 3 Lantra,s and Hyundaitech I think is pretty spot on.
Gearbox problems seem to crop up first. We,ve had no troubles with rust,
    paint , excellent fuel economy.

I'd second that but point out you will need to go to an aftermarket
radio to get a decent CD player. Early models were tape, later do not
handle mp3. You really should consider a standard transmission unless
you are doing mostly city driving. Cheaper to buy, drive, and
maintain plus itputs you more in tune with what tthe car is doing.

    sonatas after 2005 models
what state are you in ?
Just do a google com AU and enter your search terms and select sites
    from Australia heaps come up

We have had NO trouble with any of our fleets hyundais no matter
what we throw at them :)
The holdens and fords Toyotas and Hondas not as good bang for
    buck
although smaller hyundai vehicles cop a hammering on resale if high
