have a 2003 Hyundai Elantra that needed a new clutch we put the new clutch in hooked everything up when I start the car if the car is running I cannot put my car in gear if the car is not running I can put it in gear but then I can't start it what's wrong it's a manual transmission

Your clutch job is suspect.
Either that or the synchros are busted

Would check the way the clutch was put in??
