Considering 04 Elantra

Discussion in 'Hyundai Elantra / Lantra' started by Nursinglifeline, Dec 9, 2004.

  1. Has about 11,000 miles on it. Are these generally reliable cars now? They
look much better than they did 10 or so years ago and can only assume the
quality has also improved. Getting it more for the MPG than anything.

Never had a Hyundai so just looking for input from owners.

    Thank you.

  2. MPG? Compared to what? The Elantra is not rated particularly high for gas
mileage compared to others (like a Corolla).

I have a 2003 Elantra with 26k miles. I bought it new and it has been problem free. I get 35mpg straight freeway, and about 27mpg driving a mix of city and freeway. I recommend it highly!

  7. Same here. I had such good luck with a used Excel I bought, that I
bought an Elantra GT hatchback in April to replace it.

  8. What kind of driving are you doing? Automatic or manual transmission? I
average 30-32 mpg combined (mostly highway) with the 5 speed. Although
the automatic isn't rated much lower, it seems that the real world
    results are significantly lower(4-5 mpg).

I travel about 600 miles a week, 85% highway driving, and average 25 mpg.
This is with the cruise control on and set 6 MPH above the limit.
    Auto tranny.

  10. It must be the auto then, since I get 30+ in similar circumstances and
know of several others that do.

I should add that I have the five-speed manual transmission...

I bought my 04 Elantra GT in May and I have since put on 19k kms. It is
the 5 speed model and I couldn't be happier with it. It's fun to drive
and not too bad on fuel. My mileage is about 7.4 litres per 100kms which
is roughly 32 mpg. I don't baby the car and could probably do better on
fuel consumption if I backed off on the throttle a little. Synthetic
motor oil probably would help a little there too. I am considering
    changing to Mobil 1®.

The only problen I've had with it was an EGR code that caused the idiot
light to come on. That was fixed by the dealer without any hastle.
Turned out to be a loose hose.
