I HOPE not! I'm real tired of accidentally pressing it on my Honda
remote and almost having a heart attack!

Nope, I wish they did though. It's useful to find your car in a large
lot when you can't remember where you left it...

  3. Our '02 Sonata does not but our '04 Santa Fe LX does, and I've hit the
tank's panic button about a hundred times just trying to figure out which
remote is which by feel inside my jacket pocket.

If its on the remote of the car I end up purchasing, I'm going to try
    to have it de-activated.

Now here's an interesting question. None of the 2003 models (that I
know of) have the panic button. Does anyone know if a 2004 remore
with the button could be reprogrammed for a 2003 model (say, my Sonata
LX) and still have the panic button work?

Wasn't there a panic button on the fob of the Sonata you test-drove? The
panic button is recessed compared to the lock and unlock buttons so even
without looking it doesn't take long to learn which is which.

I like the fact that we have this feature; and it's easy to turn off the
alarm by hitting the button again.

Neil, I'm embarrassed to admit I didn't take a studied look at the
remote when I rented the car for the weekend. I'll have another chance
next weekend when I rent my next Hyundai.

No, you don't program the remote itself...you can program the 2004 remote's
code into the older model receiver, but the panic function is not supported,
    so it wouldn't work.

People who do that should be flogged. Find your car -- don't disturb
everybody else who lives nearby, or the people who are just going about
their business in the parking lot.

This is very easy to do with any FOB. Just pry it open and put a piece
of adhesive tape on the circuit board just beneath the panic button.
Then it will never work until you remove the tape.
