    Morning Folks -
hope u r havg a good day but lookg 4 a piece of info about an odd issues with the mrs 2003 santa Fe (6 popper).

Whenever she/we put gas into th vehicle the engine will not start n the normal mode.
rather it cranks & acts like it is flooded. So if we floor the gas pedal the engine revs up & car starts
BUT must keep the rpm's up and put n gear to go. else car will die.

this only happens when puttg gas n th car.
    otherwise the car starts great.
problem ONLY occurs after puttg gas n th car.
    wierd?

any ideas or has anybody else encountered such issues?

    thanks 4 your assistance!

have a great day fishg - always better than a day at work.
    yes - i am retired.

    thanks

If this only happens when filling up then would guess (real guess) that the purge valve (normally closed) is stuck open. Or, the evap canister's vent valve (normally open) is stuck closed.
This makes me wonder why the ECM isn't throwing a check engine light.
Is it difficult to fill up?

Explanation, When filling up, gasoline enters the gas tank. The air in the tank must move out for the gasoline to move in. So, fumes from the gasoline is suppose to go pass the charcoal canister where the hydrocarbons are absorbed and the rest of the air goes out the vent valve. Later when the engine is running (say at higher rpms, such as highway speed), the purge valve opens and sucks the air through the charcoal canister. Thus, removing the hydrocarbons from the canister and feeding the gasoline fumes into the engine.

    During filling ..
If purge valve is stuck open then gas fumes would go (flooding engine with fuel) into the in-take plenum and make it hard to start and/or run. If vent valve is stuck closed then it may also force the gas fumes pass the purge valve (less likely).

This is only one possible explanation. And a guess at that. Good luck.
