I started up my car this morning, and I heard a sound of rushing liquid. Then I started driving it, and any movement to the steering wheel made a LOUD grinding sound.

I drive a 2001 Hyundai Sante Fe. I installed a used rack and pinion a year ago, and everything looks fine.

i was also very LOW on power steering fluid on friday, and I ended up putting more in friday, drove it about 50 miles since then, and this morning the loud grinding occurred.

Any recommendations of what it could be?

ouff when metal particules goes round and round, all steering internal parts will damage. I suggest to flush the system after replacing any parts. I know it is not easy, but not flushing it, will give more issue down the road.
