How does Santa Fe pull fuel from both sides of tank

I'm new to this site and have been learning about my 01 Santa Fe.
I've been reading on line how the two senders on each side of the fuel tank operate, with the fuel gauge.
Can anyone describe how the fuel pump pulls fuel from both sides of the tank?

One side has a fuel pump assy.The passenger side has a suction assy. The two are connected inside the tank with a flexible fuel line.Both assy. have sending units for the fuel gauge. I just had both assy. replaced by dealer to fix gas gauge and check engine light on my 2007 for $1,000. dollars!!!
