When I took my '04 GLS Sonata in for a few minor repairs, I mentioned
that the lights behind the 1 & 4 button of may radio don't light up. I
thought it would be an easy fix, replace a bulb, but no, they had to
order me a whole new radio! Now I'm not sure if I should live with the
defective bulb, or let them replace the radio. I just have a bad
feeling I'll have even more problems with the new radio, and I would
bet it is a "refurb" and not new. Is there a way I can just replace
the bulb in my existing radio?

Yes, it'll be a reman unit. To be honest, I don't know if the bulb is
easily replaceable, but to do so, you'd have to disassemble the radio and
that would void the warranty on the radio.

If your car's new enough, you could ask the service manager to try to get
Hyundai to let them put in a brand new radio instead of a reman one, but I
honestly doubt they will allow this.

  3. Replacing the radio is quite easy, so the risk of related problems is
small. Even if the replacement is a refub unit, what's the problem.
"Refurb" means that the unit has been brought back to factory new
condition. I've bought many refurbed products over the years and haven't
had any more problems with them than with new products.

Maybe it's just me, but I never have luck with refurb products
