Make sure to contact your service department.

Please do not call Hyundai or your local dealer. You'll get a notice in
the mail. They have not issued the recall TSB yet.

Just saw this on NBC Dateline. The airbag needed a software update as it
didn't even deploy, and there was another issue with a fuel leak after the
test impact.

I have my 15k service this week. Can I expect the dealer to be ready to
resolve these issues? If I were a car manufacturer I'd make sure I got the
TSB out before the likes of NBC air their show.

Hyundaitech have you heard anything yet?

Neil.

I just remembered that I read somewhere that this affected the sedans. Is
this correct, as I would have thought the sedan and hatch used identical
airbags and airbag software?

This is a VOLUNTARY recall. Unlike most manufacturers, when Hyundai got
some less than desirable crash test results from the IIHS, they decided
to make modifications to the airbag timing. The IIHS (Insurance
Institute for Highway Safety) is not a government entity and has no
authority over car manufacturers. It's commendable that instead of
offering some lame excuse, they've decided to take it upon themselves to
improve the airbag performance. Bravo, Hyundai!

Hyundai has provided us zero details on the recall. The recall and
associated TSB must go through all the normal legal wrangling channels
before I know anything.

There are several recalls on Sonatas, but none that I know of on the air
bag system. Were you asking about a specific issue? If you think you may
have a recall on your car, let me know and I'll e-mail you to get your VIN.
