I have a Ford Focus and looking at a Sonata

Discussion in 'Hyundai Sonata' started by Lawrence Adler, Feb 6, 2005.

  1. I drive 60 miles round trip every day, so MPG is importatnt. Experienced
Sonata owners....what is your actual MPG. The 60 miles is 90% 60-70mph and
I get 27-30 in the ZX3. I have never got close to there Highway estimate.
57 years old so I do not wear the accelerator out.
I have found that foreign cars estimates are low and US estimate MPG are
low...so I am looking for a realalistic in the 6cyl.

    Thanks

  4. You might want to consider the Elantra instead. In the type of driving
you describe, my 5 door, manual, GT gets me 30-34 mpg. Based on what
I've heard from other Elantra drivers, with an auto, you lose a few mpg,
so I would expect the same mileage you're getting with your focus.

MPG on the Sonata V6 is not great. Buy it for the value and reliability
(and style?) but if it's MPG that's most important to you, you might
want to look elswhere. Maybe the new 2006 Sonata V6 (3.2liter) is
better, but my 2004 V6 only gets around 17-19 MPG city.

  6. I get about 21 with my 2002 Sonata... I like to drive fast so I think it
would be better if I drove normal..

    I get about 23 - 24 on trips..

    But remember, you can't compare a 4 cylinder 110Hp to a 170Hp 6 cylinder.

I'm happy with the gas mile I'm getting If I wanted more I'd look into the
new hybrids.. Or go down to the 4 cylinder version.

There is a ford escape that sounds really good that is a hybrid. Also there
is a new Honda Accord that is a hybrid that sounds good.

    re: Ford Focus

May I try to list the cars (models/makes) that derive for their most part(s)
    from South Korea?

I realize there are no completely one nation cars, as parts and assemblies are
all over the globe, aren't they?

My current perception is that the following derive for the most from Korea:

    Hyundai

    Kia

Daewoo (i've read they got some plants in eastern europe)

Ford Focus (or is it mostly from Mexico?)

    vat else?

and don't forget that 1960s pontiac tempests(?) that sometimes could barely do
    hills (allegedly)

and why am i asking about such?

well, this "explanation" doesn't answer my question

while i recently read that china will be exporting a low-priced car in the near
future, and so the competitive marketplace...is gonna be ...

p.s. if a ford focus or anything else (china car) has as good of a warranty as
    a hyundai, then ...
