I have a 2008 Hyundai accent and for the last year or so every time I fill up with gas the car will stop running. After it stops running it will start up right away with no problems. Last week I was filling my car up with fuel, it was a hot day 95F. The car would start an idol but is soon as I put it into drive it would stop running. I had to have it towed home. Later that day car started and ran fine. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Do you have any check engine lights on?
Can you scan the ECU and read the diagnostic trouble codes?

    Not sure but, ...
It sounds like a stuck open purge valve
    Or ....

    Next time you fill up
    Bring a few tools
Disconnect purge valve or clip on vise grips to shut closed the hose to throttle body
    See if that helps any??

Thanks that’s some good advice thanks. I’m not showing a check engine light and codes show on my scanner. Within the last year I have replaced the purge valve and the gas tank valve with OEM parts but maybe on has gone bad. I know these cars have problems with gas caps also.

    Thanks again!

Don't be too happy. I don't know much.
There may be a clear flood mode for this car.
Depress the gas pedal all the way down
And crank engine for about three seconds
This should clear the cylinders and lines of excess gas fumes
May make it easier to start???

You have to remember that I am only guessing at the problem
If you do more tests please let me know.
Would like to know the real fix for this issue.
