Please pardon my barging into the conversation; it's of interest.
Considering my last new car was a Saturn LS2, in 2000,
and it cost $21,000!!
I, too, looked at Saturn awhile back. Base unit: very economical. Car you
would want: got expensive fast.
And this is the reason I finally gave up on
American cars. I paid top dollar (at 8% interest!!) for a car I
THOUGHT was good quality. Nothing could be further from the truth.
After Saturn's pathetic 32,000 mile warranty ran out, I have had to
replace the air conditioning compressor, the alternator, a strut
mount, and a power window motor. And this car still only has 75,000
miles on it. The parts for that Saturn are very expensive also. My car
before that, also new, was a 1996 Buick.
The GM approach: Advertise heavily, finance/rebate aggressively, recall
if/when/as necessary. Until then, charge through the ying-yang for parts
and service.
Personally, I'm done with them. (And Ford.)
At about 45,000 miles, a
power window motor went out on that also.
Only 1 of the 4? You're lucky

My brother was not so fortunate with his Buick.
And there were other
problems with it, the final straw being the transmission about to go
out when I traded it in. So this is my first foreign car. It's
politically incorrect to be driving a foreign car here in the Detroit
area, but I'm sick of these quality issues with the American cars.
Hell, half the parts (or more?) aren't even made in the USA anyway. I
just really like this Sonata, and with this warranty, price and
quality feel, it's a hard car to beat. Hopefully I'll have better luck
with this car than with my last two new cars,
It isn't "luck", of course. I have a 2003 Elantra GT hatchback, and it's
the most fun car (I'm since my old 1960 MGA (and MUCH more practical

Quality-wise: 14 months with NO noteworthy problems.
As for 'political correctness' -- Oh, please.....Buy what you really want.
It's a global economy; don't let Washington's pseudo-patriotism schtick
compromise your interests.
My next car: Another GT, or maybe a Sonata.
Happy shifting,
