I had an experience with my 2001 Accent GS 5-speed recently that the
dealership was unable to find the cause of. I was trying to slow down and
stop for a red light, but instead, my car started making a noise like it was
trying to accelerate and did not slow down. When I tried to downshift to
slow it down, the clutch was inoperable, and the gearshift moved, but did
not actually engage. I managed to stop it by pulling onto a median, but the
noise would not stop until I shut the car off. When I turned the car back
on, it was fine. The dealership checked my brakes, transmission, clutch,
and electrical circuits and said they were unable to find the cause, or
recreate the problem. Has anyone else had this same experience?

Many years ago I had a similar problem with an add-on cruise control. It
wouldn't disengage; a little scary! Do you have an after market CC?

    Just a thought.

Nope - No cruise control at all.
