QUESTION about 4WD on a Santa Fe

The manual says that the indicator light on the instrument panel is
supposed to come on when the car goes into 4WD. I've never seen this
light. I've driven on wet, slippery, grassy hills and I never have
any trouble but I've still never seen the light. I checked the manual
and it says that the light is supposed to come on for a few seconds
when the car is started. It does not.

On page 2-12 of the manual they talk about "Full-Time 4WD Operation
(if installed)". Is this what all the 4WD Santa Fe's have or is this
an option only on some of the 4WD models. It sounds like some may
have a manual switch to put it in 4WD and some don't. Is this
correct?

What year Santa Fe do you have??

So they don't have to print two types of manuals, they use the expression if
equipted. If you have 4X4, the lights will work, if the bulb isn't shot.

I realize that they only print one manual. I was asking if there is
more than one type of 4WD. One with manual selection and one with
automatic selection only.

If the light doesn't go on briefly when you start, the bulb or something
must be faulty. It sounds as though your 4WD is working but your indicator
is not. This should be a simple fix for your dealer.

I have a 2003 European 4WD Santa Fe and have checked the section
"Full-Time 4WD Operation(if installed)" but cannot find any reference
to an indicator light nor can I find one on the instrument cluster.
There is a reference to a 'Traction Contol Indicator' in a different
section but my Santa Fe does not have this option and it does not have
this indicator light. I assume that the reference to 4WD being an
option refers to the fact that some Santa Fe's are 2WD

The mention of the indicator light is on page 1-40. The drawing of
the instrument panel is on 1-37 and they describe the operation of the
different indicators.

Anyone else out there have a 4WD Santa Fe that does not have an
indicator light?

Canadian 2002.5 V6 AWD - no indication light - it is an AWD not 4WD. The
only light would be for TCS - Traction Control System.
