The 6 cyl seems to be a fine automobile. Can you tell me what sensor your
    friend is talking about?

Doesn't sound like anything I've seen repeatedly.

    Hello,

I translate with an online translation this about the sensor:

all what I know, it is that the engine of the santa Fe is a version
improved of the v6 2.5 liters of 2 years ago, have finds it in the
sonata and the tiburon.Very soon if it is not already on sale, the
santa Fe could be equipped with the engine of 3.5 liters of the xg
    350. I do not know if a recall campaign were emitted for this engine
on the other hand. My father being landlord of a sonata 2000 v6, I can
say to you that indeed all the change of sensor does not cost anything.
there have an error in the design of one of the sensor
of the system obd2. They (the dealer) promised to us to replace the
defective sensor until A what the version corrected is available.
ateach spring and each autumn, the car enters to the garage to
correct the obd2. It's the only problem to meet it on this engine that
    I know.
The v6 2.7 liters I do not know if it has same the problem,
that would astonish me, like for the v6 3.5 liters.

There was an issue with the 2.5 and 2.7 v6 engines and the oxygen sensors.
The latest story I've heard from Hyundai is that they issued revised
oxygen sensors in 2001, but continued having check engine lamp problems
for the oxygen sensors. Most recently, they have issued a recall to
replace the oxygen sensors if the original design and to reprogram the ECM
to better control the oxygen sensor heater circuit. I've seen very few
return after these repairs are completed.

In any event, it won't apply to a 2004 Santa Fe with either the 2.7 or 3.5
engine because Hyundai changed to a different type of oxygen sensor. I'm
figuring they did this because they were having such difficulty getting
    the others to operate correctly.
