I'm looking at the 2.4 petrol Santa Fe (I'm in England), and also
considering the Shogun Pinin, the Grand Vitara, and an imported
Terrano - all around the same price, at £14000-ish.
I'd like to know how it copes with snow and ice - the others have dual
range gears, but the Santa Fe doesn't.
Any other advice or info would be welcome. I like the size of the
Santa Fe - the Pinin and Grand Vitara are a bit small, while the
Terrano might cause problems because it's an import.

I'm not likely to be doing any serious offroading!

    Paul,

I'm in the uk and bought a 2.0 diesel. I had a Freelander before and find
the Sante Fe a better drive on the road. We use it for towing caravan and
it's far better! Also have two teenage boys and they find they have far
more room in the back. The dog says the same about the boot!! In fact the
whole family prefer it to the Freelander

Thanks - I'm seeing some good reviews of it from people who have
    actually driven it!

I used our 2003 Santa Fe in heavy snow and ice conditions this past winter
and it did great! It was nice to not to not have to flip a switch to get
traction. I didn't slip and slide once. Both my husband and I were very
    impressed.

Might I also add that as Oregon drivers we don't get snow and ice often. So
even as inexperienced snow and ice drivers, we did well.
