If I had only one complaint about my '02 Sante Fe, it would be the lack of power. Getting onto highways, especially when the merge lane isn't very long, can be kind of tricky, due to the lack of power. I don't want to void any warranties, but is there anything I can do to step up the horses a little?

Get a K&N air filter.
I recently returned from the high desert to my home next to the Pacific Ocean .... 305 miles of "three digit" temperatures ... and the usual hour-long delays around I-80/I-880 construction projects ... and I drove "with the flow" at about 80 mph most of the way ... and my trusty 2002 SF AWD averaged 18.8 MPG .... with the A/C on "max" the entire distance.
I had no problems with low power, even at 7,200 feet and a hundred degrees.
The K&N filter will not invalidate your warranty.
Get the filter recharging kit, too.

If you have the automatic transmission, proper use of the shiftronic option can make for lack of low end torque, shift out of 2nd at 75mph@6000rpm, it will get you up to speed quick enough, just keep an eye on the tach as it will wind up fast.the horses a little?

You're not serious, are you? Shifting out of 2nd at 75 mph / 6000 rpm? How many times do you think I could do that before breaking something?
As many as he wants, the auto tranny will shift after so long at a high RPM and the engine has an automatic fuel cutoff at 6200 I think which will prevent redline damage. If something does break we got that truly excelent 10 year 100000 mile warrenty and they can't deny your claim because you shifted at 6000RPM's because cars nowadays can handle that or they will shut off fuel or auto shift for you.
