    Hiya folks,

Just bought a used 2002 Elantra GLS----great car so far.

However, the car did not have the owner's manual included with it, and now
the dealer is closed for the 4th of July until Monday.

What is the purpose of the "snorkel" looking device in front of the battery?
It is marked with a direction arrow "open". It rotates to facing open
towards the back of the car (that is in the direction of the arrow), or can
be rotated clockwise from there to about 90 degrees facing the side of the
    car.

Where should this be set and what does it do?

    Thanks in advance------

Its the air intake opening , with about 3 feet of tubing before it
gets to your throttle body . A common mod is to yard all that crap
out! In my case all it was good for is housing ground squirrels . For
a more detail explaination try http://www.elantraxd.com look under
