Been thinking about replacing the air cleaner element in my 2005
    Sonata, V6.
Comments will be appreciated about whether it is easy enough for "do
    it yourself".
Also suggestions as to what brand of element to purchase.

Currently, the car has 23000 miles - still running with the original
    filter element.

  2. If you have to ask, and do not even gave out the type o engine yo have
    (V6 yeah, but which one ??) , it's clearly over your skill-set.

At your next maintenance stop, ask for replacement, it'll cheaper on the
    long run.

The Sonata had only one V-6 in 2005. It is obvious that usenet is
beyond your skill set so please stop posting.

  4. If your vision of the market is restricted to the USA, then yes, but, in
another Countries it was release with the 3.3, since in NO place the OP
say it was an American model, still, THERE ARE 2 possible engines, 2
possible procedures to replace the filter......

Check your glass roof, before getting the stone on your hand.

You'd do best to just ignore the fucktard otherwise known as Matt
Whiting. He's been an insufferable ass in several usenet groups for
    years now.

  7. Correct, he didn't, that was deducted from the fact that he never check
his statement, but accused me of NOT checking/knowing mine.
Now, do not take me wrong, Matt is an asset to this group, and has
helped a lot of poster, just sometimes he try to be too nice, if you
read the OP, the guy/gal had not even open the lid and take a look on
the engine to see what had to be done, just expect one of us to do all
the homework for him/her, just trying to save a couple of bucks without
    moving a finger ...

Get any reputable brand air filter. Ie the brands you are familiar with, not
the " Leaping Lizard Air Filter " one size fits all from the car boot
    markets.
Everyone has to start somewhere, go for it.

Easy to do. Unhook four clips, remove lid, replace filter.

Recommended maintenance interval is 30,000 miles unless you drive in
    dusty
    conditions

Thank you John and thank you Hyundaitech.

What puzzled me about this filter is that the cover is connected to a
    number of hoses, etc.
I assume it is not necessary to remove the cover, lifting it to allow
remove/replace of the filter should be sufficient.

Actually, I have a bit of maintenance experience.
I bought my first car, 1931 Chevy, in 1947 and have done all the light
maintenance on all my cars since then.

  12. So you are at least, 78 years old, had done light maintenance on all
your cars since 1947, but, failed to notice that all modern cars (from
1980 on) have multiple hoses/pipes attached to the air filter container
    case ?????
Sorry, your story, still makes NOT sense at all.

And if you are an utterly confused old person, hey, nothing wrong with
that, I'm getting there too, but my advice to stay away from the engine
bay is still the best thing you can do.

The air intake snorkel should be the only thing attached to the uppe
portion. There should be enough flexibility in the snorkel to allow yo
to lift the lid, slip the old filter out, slip the new filter in, an
    refasten
