Strange smell

I have a lovely sonata 2005, v6, it recently has had a strong smell in the cabin. It smells like s clutch burn out on a manual, but it's an automatic, and it's very, very strong. I think it may be the battery or the alternator because the dinging the car makes when the seatbelt isn't engaged or the door is open has recently only happened sometimes. And the car will lag at starts about once a week, as in the starter works but I have to wait a few seconds before it actually starts. The recent smell is what concerns me. I checked all fluids and they are fine please help
