Tiburon in the winter

I would be interested in what you guys think of the Tiburon for winter
driving ( northern Michigan ). My Elantra does well in the snow but my wife
is looking at the Tiburon. Is ground clearance adequate for snow? Maybe snow
tires all around? And yeah, I know they have the Santa Fe for that but I'm
sure she won't want to take a big mileage hit from her Civic she now drives.

Thanks for the feedback. You're right, I forget to make that distinction
(LP/UP ). If you don't, people tend to back slowly away from you. We get
140"+ here ( LP ) and live 25 miles from town so it looks like the Tiburon
is out.

I have driven my Tiburon through 5 Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada winters
and have had no problems. You obviously have to get 4 snow tires for
the car in the winter, the performance tires are like hockey pucks on
ice in the winter. With 4 good snow tires though, I have been very
happy with all winter conditions. I use the same set of rims, and have
my tires changed back and forth, spring and fall. I live 30 KM outside
of Winnipeg, and have rarely had difficulty with clearance. Any
car/SUV would get stuck when we get 3 feet of snow over night. As long
as the roads are ploughed reasonably well, then the Tiburon can travel
well. Don't discourage your wife, over the fear of a few days of bad
weather. The Tiburon is a great car, very reliable and economical.
Good luck with your decision. Gillian

Hey Gillian, how many CV boots have you had to replace? I found the terrible
prarie winters seem to like to tear up CV boots and destroy outer CV joints,
along with suspension parts.. Sounds likeyou have had good luck with your
Tibby... Perhaps when i get back to Canada I may consider really looking
for one...

I have nothing but suspension problems in the 5 years with my Tiburon. I am
on my 3rd set of front struts, 2nd set of back struts and 2nd rack and
pinion. And am going to have to replace my CV joints soon. Not to mention
the leakey sunglass holder on the roof when it goes from cold weather to
warm weather. All in all I will never buy another Hyundia again

Where do you drive the thing? Do I dare question your age? Since recieving
my 94 Excel, I have done the f struts once, rear shocks once( they didn't
need to be done ), no axles or boots. 3 alt, a tranny rebuild at 120 000
miles.. I just recently hit 200 000 miles (aprrox 340 000 km's) and I feel
it has been better than any other car I have owned...

When the rack was replaced the first time did the shop completely
flush the power steering system?

Timmer..........
