Trivial issue -- Elantra mud guards

    Folks,

I bought a 2005 Elantra GLS last month. I specifically wanted one with a
manual transmission. Turns out they're somewhat rare here in New England --
I don't know why. I was looking for a base model -- no options. By my
standards, the base Elantra is already a luxury car:)

The car one local dealer finally located for me (swapped from another
dealership) fit the bill, except that it included floor mats, cargo net, and
"mudguards". This is the kind of stuff I consider nickel-and-dime
profit-padding, but I don't mind getting ripped off a _little_ bit, and
anyway I figured at least the mudguards are marginally useful. So I said
    OK.

Now here's the question: does "mudguards", in Hyundai's terminology, mean 4
mudguards, or 2? And if 2, does it make any sense that they would be the 2
on the _rear_ wheels? According to the dealer, "2, on the rear wheels" is
    what "mudguards" means.

It's not a big deal. I know I can buy my own front mudguards for a few
bucks. And I am otherwise very happy with the car. But before I fill out
Hyundai's customer satisfaction survey, I'd like to know whether I would be
doing the dealer an injustice by suggesting that either he's an idiot, or he
    takes _me_ for one :)

  3. Hyundai factory mudgards are a set of four. I had them installed on my
'04 GT. Perhaps your dealer is trying to stick you with aftermarket
    mudguards?

BTW, if your car is a hatchback, the cargo tray is a worthwhile option.

My GT Hatch did not come with the mud guards and I ended up buying them
myself later. I bought the cargo tray and net at the same time -- both
worthwhile additions. Next time, I'd ask for all of these things at the
    time of purchase.

I did get the floor mats with the car.

Mudguards come as a front kit and a rear kit. IF installed at the factory,
you should have all four. If installed by one of the dealers, you'll have
    whatever they chose to install.

Check your Monroney Label (factory window sticker). It will specifically
list the items the car came with.

Also check any add-on stickers you have. They may list when, what, and by
    whom additional items were installed.

If you don't have the stickers and it's worth your time, contact the
dealer and let them know you'd like to find out the facts prior to sending
in the survey. That may get their attention in a big way.

Just got a 2005 Elantra GLS, came with 4 mudguards. I assumed that was
standard as mudguards. The word is plural, should be all 4 wheels.

  7. On the Elantra GT Club site, there's a discussion about a $13 trunk
organizer available at Walmart. I picked one up and it fits the
hatchback perfectly, and does a nice job of organizing the stuff I
    always carry, plus groceries, etc.

I can't imagine why any car would come with only 2 and not 4. Plural means
more than 1 BTW not more than 2.

I ordered mudguards when I bought my Elantra 2003 GLS and it came with four.
By the way, on www.Edmunds.com the mudguards for a 2005 Elantra GLS are
listed as costing $60 MSRP. It doesn't specify the number, but if it's only
for two they must be the gold-plated ones <g>. I think your dealer was
    pulling your chain.
