1600cc DOHC , Bought one today with a genuine 65,000 miles and it drives
fine , The engine is nice and quiet - but seems to be a bit gutless when
    you sink the pedal .

Its a nine year old car and I dont expect it to drive like new - just
curious for any comments as its my first hyundia .

BTW: is there any uk web forums for hyundia as there doesnt appear to be
    any hyundai uk newsgroups .

  2. A 1.6 liter engine is going to perform like a dog in a 4-door passenger
car unless the car weighs very little. There's no replacement for
displacement. OTOH, in Old Blighty, you get taxed based on engine
displacement, and fuel economy will be better with a tiny engine, so you
might win in the long run.
IIRC, the build quality of Hyundai cars improved a lot when GM bought
part of Hyundai and implemented stricter quality control. That happened
a few years later than 1995 though.
Google "Hyundai UK forum" and see what you get. The top links there
appear to be for the Coupe (Tiburon/Tuscani) but adding "Elantra" to the
search may improve things. Just remember that web forums = teh suck
compared to Usenet, as any moron with AOL or (spit) WebTV can use web
forums and using Usenet requires a bit more intelligence to set up.

You only get cheaper road tax in the uk if the car is less than 1400cc .
Anybody can send a control message to create a new alt.* group and even
if you go through all the alt.config crap most news admins wont auto add
the new alt.* group and will only add it if somebody requests it added .

uk.* is a touch your toes process and takes almost 2 months from start
to finish unless you can justify a 'fast track' and anybody can object
to it without even giving a reason - if memory serves .

I agree that web forums suck compared to usenet - but can understand why
some people find them a easy option .
