Yes and is air filter a part of tune up?

How can you tell you need tune up? My Hyundai Accent book says I have
to do it every 2 years. So what do you guys think?
    Thanks

Its all in the books, but its a bit complicated with years and km limits on
    various parts.

The year thing is the maximum time between changes, so if you dont drive far
you still need to do the change.

lets go through the parts with TYPICAL value's ( I have a lantra wagon, not
    a baby )

    "Oil change Service"
    Oil & oil filter
    - every 15thous, or a year.

    "tune up service"
    Petrol filter
    alternator/aircon/power steering belts
    spark plugs
    air filter
    radiator water
every 2 years, or 30 thou

    Cam timing belt
Every 100,000 thousand km or 4 years.

However because the cost of changing the complete set of filters and belts
    and plugs is large,
Hydundai split the "tune up service" into two. and do them 15thousand km
    apart.
(I guess they might call one of these a major service, the other a minor
    tune up)

There will be the cam belt change at some stage.

I think you are not in USA cuz your numbers in km instead of miles.
Second I don't think 15K miles or 1 year for oil change is right. Here
in the USA 3000 miles for oil change is the requirement.

    Thanks

  4. Most of the "tune-up items on the dealer's list are "inspect". This
means you can do it yourself. As for oil changes and filter every
3000 miles for both change gas filter 50,000 - k&n air filter every
50,000 miles or reoil (don't suggest). New plugs NGK preferably every
30,000. Tires, brakes as per necessary and you should be fine. Every
two years fluid change for antifreeze, four years check main hoses.
If you have an auto replace tranny fluid (exact Hyundai brand) every
12-15,000 K. Inspect at 30,000 mile intervals and replace Timing Belt
and Water Pump and Serpentine Belt before $60,000K. That's what I do
and my car runs well with 58,000 miles on it. Already have belts done
and new water pump. Car works great. Follow my advice and you should
get 150,000 miles out of your Accent. I plan on it.

  5. You are overmaintaining your vehicle unless you are driving in "severe
conditions" ie. lots of dust, many short trips where engine doesn't fully
warm up, etc. It depends on the vehicle and your location as well as driving
conditions. The recommended oil/filter change interval for the Santa FE V6
AWD auto is 6000 to 6500km, it has platinum plugs replacement schedule
100,000km, etc. All inspections are clearly laid out in the owners manual,
based on time and distance, whichever comes first. Timing belt replacement
is 100,000km, not 60,000km. Transmission Fluid 48,000km. etc.

  6. If it were kilometers that I was talking about you'd be right. I'm
from the States and am talking in terms of K meaning 1,000 as in I
make 40K or my car has 40K on it. Understand the confusion.
Otherwise I think we are congruent. Peace.

Maybye the 3000 miles guideline there might be because the car might
spend a lot of time stopped in heavy traffic.

Or maybe because you have more money to spend.

Anyway, the difference in major and minor is just the complexity of the
service and the difference is arbitrary.

You end up with all sorts of services, ones which change external belts,
one which changes the spark plugs, and stuff. There isnt really any tuning,
its all just servicing, because the computer looks after the timing. in the
old days, an engine needed tuning as the mechanisms in the distributor wore
    down..
