The engine/malfunction indicator lamp came on ,so we ran it down to
the Service Shop. The Tech took in and brought it back in about 15
min. and ask my wife if she pumped more fuel after it cut off on fill
up, she said yes. He said this was a NO No and not to over fill it.My
question.... is this right?? The wifey said she didnt see anything in
Manuel about overfill. TIA

They're right on. Continuing to pump after the auto shutoff can get liquid
fuel into the evaporative emissions system, preventing the system from
testing itself properly for leakage (it does this with engine vacuum). In
severe cases, the fuel can get into the charcoal canister, saturating and
permanently damaging it.

Always stop at the auto cutoff. It'll prevent problems.

FWIW, it's in my '02 SF manual.

Onoe other common cause of the Check Engin Light is the fuel cap not being
fully re-installed. Make sure you turn it one full turn after it clicks.

Mine, too. Can't imagine them leaving it out. I'd suggest the original
poster look again.

This is not recommended for ANY modern car.

it's in the 2004 manual not to do it. i read it when i bought mine a couple
months ago, now i know the reason.
