How to set cruise control on 2000 Sonata?

Discussion in 'Hyundai Sonata' started by Jeremy & Kandie Michea, Feb 7, 2005.

  1. Hi. I just bought a used 2000 Sonata. Nice car. I'm planning on a weekend
trip and was trying to figure out how to use the cruise control. I don't
have a car manual and can't find the info the net so either I'm not doing
something right or the cruise control doesn't work.

So, can anyone please tell me how to activate the cruise control on a 2000
    Sonata?

    Thanks

Also, while I'm here I'm just curious, what should the RPM's be when the
automatic transmission (4 cylinder) switches gears, say 2nd to 3rd?

    Thanks

    1. Press the cruise control on/off button on the lower left-hand part
of the dashboard. (Kind of awkward to reach.) The button light will
turn on, letting you know the system is armed.

    2. When you reach the desired speed, press the "Set" button on the
steering wheel. (There will be 2 buttons on the right side of the
steering wheel, "Set" is the lower button as I recall.) If all is
working OK the "Cruise" light in the dash will light up and the cruise
    control will engage.

To disengage, tap the brake pedal or hit the dashboard on/off button.
It will vary depending on load and acceleration. On average, maybe
somewhere between 3,000 and 4,000 RPM? (We have a 2000 Sonata GLS, but
the wife mostly drives it and I don't really recall.)
