Who has experience with the Hyundai car manual transmittion, or
shiftronic transmittion? Please tell pro and cons of both the systems
? "Shiftronic" = "automatic transmission with an easy way of telling
the transmission to go up or down 1 gear". The interface is slightly
different from a "normal" automatic transmission, but you can put it in
D and just drive without worrying about what gear the car's in. That's
the main pro for automatic transmissions in general. I have a V6
Tiburon with a Shiftronic transmission, and I don't use the Shiftronic
feature very often. I'd use it more if the car had less power.
The cons for auto trannies are worse fuel economy (auto trannies are
much heavier than manual trannies), fewer gears, and some power loss at
lower speeds due to the fluid coupling used.
You didn't say which model of Hyundai you were thinking about buying.
The 2003 V6 Tiburon ("Tuscani" or "Coupe" in .nl) had a number of
complaints about the clutch in the manual-tranny models. Apparently,
they used the same clutch on the I4 and V6 Tiburons and that clutch
couldn't take the extra power of the larger engine. This meant many
Tiburon owners had to get the clutch rebuilt at ~15,000 miles. Usually,
you don't have to get the clutch rebuilt until 80,000 or 100,000 miles.
Folks at newtiburon.com recommended an aftermarket racing clutch as the
best solution here. The problem may have been fixed in the 2004 line;
I'm not sure. I'm also not sure about the manual transmissions on other
Hyundai models.
and why should one choose either of these.
You're in .nl, where gas is way too expensive. Get the manual tranny if
you can drive stick; you'll save a lot of money upfront and over the
life of the car.
