Yes, you're using Outlook Express 6.0. You highlight the offending post, and
select "Message>Block Sender" and the spammer disappears with all of his
posts.

Usenet in general has had problems with spam since before the Great
Renaming. Ask your local NNTP server admin about spam problems, and
you'll learn more than you ever wanted to know.

Radford: Spammers forge their From: addresses, and they rarely if ever
use the same From: twice. This approach amounts to nothing more than a
neverending whack-a-mole game. It's better than nothing but still less
than ideal.

The current best way of dealing with spammers is to apply a Bayesian
filter either at the NNTP server or at the NNTP client. Since most ISPs
don't even care about Usenet and wish it'd go away, you'll have a hard
time getting an ISP's NNTP admin to do the extra work. Client-side
filters are easier to set up, but I'd be surprised if LookOut Express
(any version) does anything but the most basic filtering out of the box.
Better NNTP clients exist; slrn, tin, pan, emacs, Knode, and Forte Agent
are 6 of them.

Finally, I haven't seen *any* of this spam except in the followups
legitimate posters have posted. news.cis.dfn.de has a competent admin
who hates spam, I guess. Good on him!

Excellent choices!

OOTC: My '02 Santa Fe is now seventeen months old and
not one problem (well --- one flat tire but what-the-hey). It is a
most excellent vehicle. =8-)
