I have a 2002 Accent GS, and for awhile now it will produce loud clunking
noises between the front wheels - it only does this when I accelerate at a
90 degree turn from a stop. Having done some research, I'm suspecting either
the lower control arm or control arm bushings, does this sound sensible? The
car is so low to the ground, I can't get my hydraulic jack underneath it to
check things out. I'm going to try to borrow some drive-on ramps. My wiper
fluid delivery also recently stopped working, might this be related?

I have the same year and it clunked for a while but has stopped.
I too suspected control arms but I haven't dug into it any further.

Does this sound like a cv joint click?
If it's a suspension noise, it could be just about anywhere.

On mine it was a deeper "clunk" that didn't sound like CV.
Seemed to happen when the front was diving slightly.

mine does it too when i move off the line quicker than normal.
since i haven't noticed any other effects it doesn't concern me. my
hunch is that it may be to do with the bolt on sub frame.

That's it. Especially a quick takeoff turning right or left. It's definitely
a deep "clunking."

It concerns me because it's a very nasty sound, and I can't ignore it.
Weather permitting, I'm going to figure out a way to hoist my front end
tomorrow, then I'll post what I find. BTW, I've hit a couple of potholes
from hell in this car in the last two years... =:-O

Before putting it up, grab the engine and jerk it from front to rear fairly
hard. It's possible one of the motor mount bolts is loose.

Ah. That's a good suggestion, seeing as how the clunk only is heard when
hard torque is applied to the drivetrain. But, no; the motor mounts are
perfect. I did manage to get the car hoisted and crawled underneath, but I
am ashamed to report that I could find nothing (obviously) amiss. I spent
about 40 minutes yanking around and visually inspecting things before I
lowered it and started cleaning up my truck. I haven't given up, though!
